A water rate increase took effect yesterday as part of a series of annual increases based on the Water Plan 2020 project.   This comprehensive study conducted in 2005 recommended annual 8.5 percent increases to handle the financial challenges of "aging, deteriorating infrastructure".

The standard residential 5/8 inch meter will increase from $2.65 to $2.90 per 1,000 gallons within the first block of 20,000 gallons. The second block of 20,000 to 40,000 gallons will increase from $3.40 to $3.70 per 1,000 gallons. For those who usuage exceeds 40,000 gallons, the rate will be $.540 per 1,000 gallons.
