Spring Events on Kauai
Spring is officially here and on Kauai, it is the start of several local cultural events. A week long celebration honoring the birthday and birthplace of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana'ole starts this Sunday at various locations in the Poipu area on Kauai's south shore. The events include films on Hawaiian environment and culture, demonstrations and teaching of Native arts and cultural practices and entertainment by well known musicians, Ledward Ka'apana and Mike Ka'awa.
Prince Kuhio was known for his work to preserve Native Hawaiian culture and was known as "Ke Ali'i Mak'ianiana" , Prince of the People. For a complete list of events, click here.
Another popular event on Kauai will be held on Kauai's west side on March 27 and 28th. The Kauai Orchid and Art Festival features two days of orchid shows, orchid-themed artwork, keiki art & activities , a craft fair, silent auction, musical entertainment and a walking tour of the historic town of Hanapepe. There will also be workshops offered on how to grow vanilla orchids, ikebana flower arranging and an art competition with the theme, "Orchid Fantasy". A free concert will be held on Saturday and features one of my favorite singer/guitarist, Makana. For more information on this festival, click here.
