The Kauai Department of Water announced the second annual increase of rates starting January 1, 2008. The increase is part of the series of annual 8.5% rate increases that started in 2006.
The rate increases depend upon usage and are as follows:
Per 1,000 gallons on standard residential 5/8" meter for first 20,000 gallon: $2.45 to $2.65
For portion that exceeds 20k gallon (20,001 to 40,000 gallons) : $3.10 to $3.40
Over 40,000 gallons: $4.90
According to the Water Department, for a typical single family residence with a usage of 25,000 gallons of water, the increase will amount to approximately $7.50 per bi-monthly bill.
