Anyone concerned about the possible disappearance of vacation rentals in certain areas of Kauai that are not in a VDA or Visitor Destination Area will be pleased to read the results of the Kauai County Meeting held yesterday. The following was released by the Kauai Board of Realtors.
After over 8 years the Transient Vacation Rental Bill #2204
is closer to being an Ordinance with only the Mayor's signature needed.
The meeting started at 9:30AM yesterday and the final vote was
taken after 9PM last night with a unanimous vote 7-0.
*Existing single family vacation rentals outside VDA will be
grandfathered.
*The right to vacation rental will run with the land.
*The section on Agriculture TVRs was taken out.
*Registration will begin after the forms are ready March 1 and needs to be
completed by October 15, 2008, and then renewed Annually.
*For renewal the single family vacation rental has to be rented 30 days
per year.
*There will be no new single family vacation rentals outside of the VDA.
The amendment for amortization(phase out)after 18 months did not pass. 3-4 In favor: Iseri-Carvalho,Rapozo & Asing
Against: Kouchi,Furfaro,Bynum & Yukimura
Mel Rapozo submitted an amendment requiring a Special Use Permit to be a TVR which also did not pass. 3-4
